Zoë Ruiz’s writing has appeared or is forthcoming in The Believer, Salon, The Rumpus, Marketplace, The Weeklings, and The Rattling Wall, among other places. Her writing has been included in the anthologies California Prose Directory, Rooted, and Golden State Writing. She is a staff writer for The Millions. Ruiz received a BA in Literature and Creative Writing at the University of California, Santa Cruz and is pursuing an MFA in Fiction at Oregon State University. She lives in Corvallis, Oregon.
Ruiz has worked a literary editor, literary event planner, and book publicist. She edited Nothing Ever Dies by Pulitzer Prize Winner Viet Thanh Nguyen, which was a finalist for the National Book Award in nonfiction and the National Book Critics Circle Award in General Nonfiction. She is the former Saturday editor and managing editor of The Rumpus.
She has produced over 100 events and has worked with PEN Center USA, McSweeney’s, Black Mountain Institute, The Believer and the Last Bookstore, L.A.’s largest independent bookstore. She curated READINGS, a Los Angeles based reading series, which featured award winning writers and local emerging authors. She has worked as a publicist for Los Angeles-based independent book publishers Phoneme Media, Writ Large Press, and Kaya Press, along with other independent clients.
